Ride-hailing service, Uber has launched the standalone food delivery service – UberEATS in India and initially, the service available only in Mumbai. The UberEATS service will be available through Uber app and the app is available on Android & iOS platform. By any chance, if you are not able to use the app, the service is available on the web at UberEATS.com, and according to the company, the website works even on a slower network. By using the app, anyone orders the food and get it delivered to wherever they want it or you can schedule orders so that they get delivered on the time mentioned by you. As of now, the service is only available in Mumbai at select locations like Powai, Bandra East, Bandra Kurla Complex, and the west-lying regions from Lower Parel uptown to Andheri.
The UberEATS food delivery service will take on already established players like FoodPanda, Zomato, Swiggy and other online food delivery service providers. For your information, back in 2014, the UberEATS service was started as a small delivery pilot sin Los Angeles as UberFresh and launched a separate application in Toronto in December 2015. In past 18 months, the service has grown incredibly fast, and now the stand-alone app is available in 26 countries and in 78 cities around the globe. Singapore was the first Asian country to get UberEATS in Asia back in March last year and later on the service expanded to Tokyo, Japan, Bangkok, and Thailand. As said above, the service is available in Mumbai only as of now but will eventually expand to six other cities by the end of the year. The expected cities are Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata.
The ride-hailing service, Uber has partnered with over 200 restaurants in Mumbai and they are Nom Nom, The Bombay Canteen, The Good Wife, Fresh Menu, Le 15, Bohri Kitchen, Coffee by Di Bella, Krispy Kreme, Chilli’s, and more, offering a wide selection of food options. In case if you do not know, UberEATS has already started delivering in Mumbai starting from today, and you will be able to order food 7 days a week 24×7, round the clock, as long as the restaurants are operating and accepting orders. When compared with competitors, there is no minimum order size, and a delivery fee of Rs. 15 will be levied on each order. The food prices are set by restaurant partners according to their menu and to make it simpler, Uber has also tied up with Paytm for cashless payments.
Restaurants can partner with Uber to become a part of its food delivery program, and the restaurant managers can easily control the availability of dishes on the menu, monitor number of orders, and earnings in real time.
According to Uber, only 35 minutes required to deliver any order with the condition that it takes 20 minutes for preparation and 15 minutes for delivery. It’s interesting to see how Uber maintain 15 minute delivery time when the country (India) is known for problematic traffic conditions.
UberEATS leverages the ride-hailing company’s expertise and anyone with a two-wheeler can register as a delivery partner with the condition that he/she should be 19 years of age and have a two-wheeler vehicle that should be newer or not older than 1997. The UberEATS service will open employment opportunities for individuals specifically for those who wish to work as delivery partners.
As a launch offer, you can also use promo code EATNOW50 to get Rs. 50 off on your first 5 orders till 30th June 2017, applicable for Mumbai people only.

“Mumbai is home to a booming food industry with a vibrant food culture offering both global and local cuisines. The introduction of UberEATS in India, with Mumbai as the first city, is a major step in our global expansion and showcases our commitment to the region. The app brings the perfect pairing of amazing restaurant partners, innovative technology, and the efficient Uber delivery network at a tap of a button to people in India. The wide selection of meal choices delivered at Uber speed will open new economic opportunities for delivery partners, enable restaurants to connect with more consumers and make eating effortless, everywhere and for everyone.”
Kartik Murthy, Product Manager, UberEATS Internationationalization & Growth, said:
“A little over a year ago, we set out to make food delivery–from pizza to smoothies– through the UberEATS app as convenient and reliable as getting an Uber ride. As we have expanded UberEATS, we have been building the technology to make food delivery at the push of a button easy wherever you are–whether it is at home or the park, in Mumbai or San Francisco. That is why we are working specifically to make the challenges in India opportunities for developing a better product for consumers, restaurants, and delivery partners. For example, for consumers, we are using machine learning to surface restaurant recommendations, as well as integrating popular payment options to make transactions easy; for restaurants, we developed a tool– Restaurant Manager– to share actionable data and analytics to help grow their businesses; and for delivery partners, we have built the ability for them to complete trips even when offline in low connectivity areas. We look forward to continuing to learn from our experience in India and build the technology that makes food delivery effortless for everyone.”
Raghav Verma, Co-founder, Chaayos, said:

Partnering with UberEATS will give us an opportunity to reach a broader customer base across multiple cities and ensure their favorite chai and snacks are delivered at their doorstep. We look forward to partnering with UberEATS to achieve highest standards of quality and customer experience.”
